Exposure Therapy (Safe)
Tool • 5–10 minutes
Purpose / Reason
Share the story of your humiliation with a
supportive person. Desensitize the pain.
How to Apply
- Choose a safe person (or journal/therapist) and define a 2‑minute share.
- Use the script: “I feel shame about [X]. I’m practicing being honest and kind.”
- Ask for one small response you need (listen only / reflection / reassurance).
- Debrief afterward: mark relief (0–10) and note any next step.
How & Why It Works
- Gentle disclosure counters secrecy/isolation and invites accurate social feedback, reducing shame.
Results & Goals
- Immediate (0–72h): Reduced shame spikes; clearer next steps; a small self‑kind action completed.
- Short‑term (1–4 weeks): Fewer rumination loops; more honest connection; boundaries that protect energy; evidence of values‑aligned actions.
- Medium‑term (1–3 months): Lower baseline self‑criticism; stable habits that express identity; greater resilience when mistakes happen.
